Dog treadmills are expensive as a rule, and when you are shopping for the savviest buy on the market, it can be confusing to determine good value for money and good quality. That is where I hope that we can help.
The US market was alot simpler to find good inexpensive dog tread mills than in the UK. This is because the range is so vast, astonishingly reaching $2000 for some treadmills. Our tried and tested favourites are the Petzen Dog Treadmill for small to medium dogs, and the Dogtread PZ1703 large treadmill for dogs.
The Petzen is just $489.99, and the larger one comes in a little more expensive at $899.99.
I personally use the Petzen with my Staffordshire Bull Terrier and she loves it. It is a simple sleek design, and luckily for me it is light and easy to fold and store.
I also think this one is a winner because it can be set for resistance training (uphill and downhill settings) to give your pet a harder workout.
The Dogtread large is a favourite of my colleague John and his German Shepherd Tim. This one is quite a solid item, good for dogs up to 150lb. If you are worried about portability, the Dogtread has wheels fitted to one side for manouverability.
The max speed on the Dogtread is 8mph, and you can programme distance and time for your pooches workout. This product has it all – even a treat holder at the front of the walker to keep your dog focused.
The UK market was a little different. There are a few different dog tredmills out there, but the range is limited. The two main brands of canine treadmill in the UK are ‘Dog Jogger’ and ‘Fit Fur Life’.
After evaluating the range, checking safety features, size, weight, aesthetics, product guarantees and of course price, we unanimously reccomend the Dog Jogger range.
The small to medium Dog Jogger is £674.25 (25% off), so whilst it is more than in the US, the product is worth that value.
Dog Joggers are the cheapest treadmills available, unless you want to import a product from the US and pay for the shipping charges (this is possible, and may suit you more). Fit Fur Life treadmills are great for business users or for rehabilitation, but they are rather cumbersome and are more expensive.
Dog Joggers are compact and reasonably light weight. They fold up for easy storage, and also have the functionality of resistance training and speed, distance and time modes.
